The environmental association “Friends of Forest Syggrou” is a valuable partner of the consortium of the EU project SOCIO-BEE, contributing significantly to the initial volunteering activities, which took place from May to July 2023. The association’s contribution to this effort was not only substantial but also extremely constructive, contributing significantly to the evaluation of the SOCIO-BEE technological solutions and to informing and raising awareness of the air pollution problem among its members. With the close cooperation of the president of the association, Mrs. Theodorakopoulou and the active participation of its members, the association had the opportunity to act as the first volunteer SOCIO-BEE group in the Municipality of Amaroussion that used, tested and evaluated the prototype version of a portable air quality portable sensor, an innovative mobile phone application and an online platform that complemented its operation. Thus, by making use of the equipment and participating in air pollution measurement campaigns, the members of the association collected valuable data on air quality within the municipality while facilitating the development and implementation of the pilot solutions and actions of the SOCIO-BEE project. The voluntary actions of the association, combined with the initiatives and objectives of the SOCIO-BEE project, are expected to provide significant results on air quality through measurements taken exclusively by volunteer citizen scientists, while encouraging the participation and sense of responsibility of the local community in environmental management and specifically in improving air quality. The association’s contribution and its long-standing commitment to the protection of the Forest Syggrou set an excellent example for the preservation and improvement of our natural environment, making a continuous and practical contribution to sustainability and social well-being. Their support to the SOCIO-BEE objectives has been and continues to be a driving force for the success of the project, showing how volunteering and social responsibility can create real change in favor of the environment and of all of us.
