Analysing air quality through measurement devices and citizen science for behavioural change

ABOUT THE PILOT

The pilot activities of the EU-funded project SOCIO-BEE, which will take place at Municipality of Amaroussion, Greece have the primary goal of informing and raising public awareness on the pressing issue of atmospheric pollution. This will be achieved through the citizens’ active engagement and participation in experimental campaigns involving air quality measurements using small portable devices. From the first large-scale volunteering campaign conducted solely by citizen scientists, significant qualitative and quantitative data on local air pollution levels are expected to emerge. These data will subsequently contribute to:

  1. Recognizing the extent of the problem not only empirically but also in a comprehensive and documented manner,
  2. Raising awareness of our exposure and contribution to this issue on an individual and collective level, and finally,
  3. Highlighting the areas most affected and proposing solutions to address environmental challenges with the aim of improving air quality in our local society.

PILOT TIMELINE

PARTICIPATE

Considering the value and power of citizen engagement in monitoring and tackling atmospheric pollution, we invite all citizens who live, work, or are active within Municipality of Amaroussion to voluntarily participate in the actions of the SOCIO-BEE program which will take place between February 1st to June 30th, 2024. The activities in which the citizens will participate include: a) joining volunteering groups, b) collectively deciding the areas of interest for measuring atmospheric pollution, and c) collecting and processing the acquired data on air pollutants levels.
