With great success, the Municipality of Amaroussion participated in the EuroGEO Workshop – “Towards an integrated and convergent EuroGEO”, which took place on 7-9 December 2022, in Athens.
At the conference, the representatives of the Municipality of Amaroussion, Dr. Maria Kotzagianni and Mr. Anargyros Roussos gave an oral presentation, entitled: “Strengthening citizens’ awareness and their participation towards the adoption of “green” daily commuting habits – Pilot activities of the EU funded project SOCIO-BEE in Municipality of Amaroussion”.
In the context of the speech, Dr. Maria Kotzagianni, in charge of the SOCIO-BEE project on behalf of the Municipality of Amaroussion, presented the SOCIO-BEE project and the pilot activities that the Municipality of Amaroussion has undertaken to carry out in the coming months. More specifically, she focused on the importance of air quality in cities and the impact of air pollution on the citizens’ health and the environment. She briefly presented the SOCIO-BEE concept, and highlighted the need for awareness-raising and engagement activities to address the problem in a holistic manner. Moreover, she described the status of the local air quality and stressed the strong interest of the Municipality of Amaroussion to take an active role in the European effort to inform citizens about the reduction of air pollutant emissions from the transport sector, as dictated by the strategic objectives set at European level.
In addition, during the conference and alongside the speeches, a poster session was held. Entities from the Socio-Bee consortium, i.e. the Socio-Bee project coordination team from the National Centre for Research & Technological Development, the technology company Hypertech S.A. and the Municipality of Amaroussion had the opportunity to present in more detail the planned engagement activities and the technologies developed during the project and to discuss with other participants of the conference.
